Pure Imitation Maranie

Oh, big fat DUH on my part to forget mentioning my phone call to Marty last night. He said it's cool, we can crash there in August, thus meaning that there's a very good chance that Jason and I will be experiencing Southern California in all its glory *snicker* sometime later this summer. Paint me one happy camper. :-D

What a day.

I've been exhausted a good portion of the day, to the point where I just sacked out on the futon for a couple hours this evening after not doing much before that. This was after waking up around 12:30, although Jason pointed out that I didn't sleep well. He knows this because I was frowning a lot in my sleep and tossing and turning, which I'm presuming he saw when I twice woke him up by elbowing him in my sleep. I knew I didn't sleep well from the large ball o' knots I woke up with, in place of where my hair should be. :-P

At least I finally got our wedding photos transferred into the new album we got for Christmas, being that the old album let the photos slide around quite a bit and was really too large for the amount of pictures we had. I moved shots from my sister-in-law Anne's wedding into the old album (why not, it's white) and also compiled all the S-Crew shots into one smaller album. I love looking through photos, but since I'm anal enough to want ALL OF THEM in chronological order, and there's several rolls to go through, I find it to be a bit of a pain in the ass. Hence, I'm really happy I finally got this stuff done.

Huh. I guess I haven't posted all week.

Not like I haven't had any insights, mildly clever or no, to offer this blog that no one reads anyway. :-P No, I've just been bogged down with office politics, an increased work load, no online time at work, and the pressure to come up with a suitably wonderful birthday for Jason next weekend, more for my own sake than his.

Jason, Darren and I headed to the Drexel Grandview tonight to see Metropolis, not the silent movie but the anime film.

Wow.

The art was astounding. I'm sorry, it was past astounding. It was an orgy on the eyes, to the point where the subtitles were pissing me off because I was missing out on the artwork to read them. The storyline was pretty typical but well-done anyway. And the music - I dare you to watch that and then try getting Ray Charles singing "I Can't Stop Loving You" out of your head.

Jason wanted to see this, and I did too but was pretty hesitant - I haven't really seen that much anime, and although I really like Princess Mononoke, I'm really not a big Akira fan. Visually, this blew them both away, and I recommend anyone who hasn't seen it yet to give it a shot, anime fan or not. Wow.

Jason and I got all dressed up last night and saw "Contact," which won the 2000 Tony for Best Musical. Which I found to be odd, because at no point (with one very brief exception) do any of the characters break into song. In fact, the entire production consists of three short stories, the last (and longest) one being "Contact" and the other two being companion pieces to it.

That being said, we loved it. Although there weren't any original compositions, the use of previously recorded music in relation to the characters and their actions onstage was superb enough for us to buy the CD. The storytelling was well-done, and I can't say anyone was miscast. But what really got me was the dancing. Oh, my. What I wouldn't do to be able to move like that! The choreography was unbelievable too. What can I say but wow.

After the play, Jason and I went to Chili's. (We wanted to eat at Spagheddie's, so inspired by one of the stories which took place at an Italian restaurant, but they closed too early and Chili's was next door.) We experienced the tasty mess that are the lettuce wraps - great idea in theory, but poor in actual execution. Then we came home and crashed on the sofa watching "Saturday Night Live." All in all, I had a wonderful date with my husband. We both had a really good time.

Which leads me to today - here it is, almost 2, and I'm still groggy and confused over daylight saving time. Dammit, I hate losing the hour. (Please, no arguments over how it's not REALLY losing an hour, blah blah blah. I'm just talking on how it FEELS, OK?) Time for me to motivate my ass to get some breakfast of some sort, and slack my way through the rest of the day.
