Pure Imitation Maranie

Saturday, June 08, 2002

So here I am at Darren's little euchre gathering. It's actually grown to 11 people - two of whom are sitting out, and then there's me, updating my blog on D's impossibly fast cable connection. (Seriously, the guys hooking it up were calling their co-workers and marveling over how fast this damn connection is.) I have finally learned to play euchre, 8.5 years after first hearing about it (must be an Ohio thang), only to find that I suck at it. Me + card games = bad things, man. :-P

We'll most likely be leaving as soon as Jason's done playing his set with Darren's new neighbor Glenn. Then I face tomorrow, filled chock-full of all the shit I should've done today. *sigh* Ah, well. At least I have 4 beers, a 2-hour nap, and tons o' chat time today for all my procrastination. Plus 2 new blouses that make my chest look HUGE and my waist, considerably smaller. So all in all, a good weekend. :-D

Things I should be doing today:

1) Going into work to get shit done from last week before the new week starts.
2) Studying my notary handbook.
3) Reviewing the real estate buyer's agent agreement Jason and I need to sign.

Things I most likely will be doing today instead:

1) Buying some cheap new duds at Target.
2) Taking a walk in the beautiful weather.
3) Learning to play euchre at a shindig at Darren's this evening.

Ah, the joys of procrastination and shirking duty after a long week of work. :-)

Awwww....

Take the Which Powerpuff Girl Are You? Test.

I DO look awfully cute in ponytails. :-D

Sorry, no cleverness for Maranie tonight. Maranie is pooped. Maranie is getting buried in her cubicle by piles of replevin and litigation files, and is now enjoying some time at home (ironically enough, in front of a computer - just like she does for about 9 hours now every day.)

Thanks again to Kopi, I find that I'm not only young, but annoying to boot:

Which Willy Wonka character are you?

Thanks to Kopi, I've just found out that I'm actually younger than she is:

16

I act like I'm 16.
This test was brought to you by James - Part of the David and James phenomenon. Take it here.

Yeah, that sounds about right.

So yesterday was damned exhausting, checking out two movies - "Unfaithful" I saw with Susan and Heather in the afternoon, "Attack of the Clones" with Jason at the late showing. Here's my brief opinions of both, which you might not want to read if you haven't seen AOTC yet. (I don't think I'm ruining anything with "Unfaithful" except any expectations of it being good.):

"Unfaithful."

Bleh.

I didn't realize a movie with that much fucking could be that damn dull. Instant cure for insomnia, and a good thing to kvetch about in the ladies room immediately after viewing. :-P

"AOTC"

Yes, the dialogue is painful in parts, but dammit, what an enjoyable movie! Action, romance, foreshadowing (anyone else catch the Imperial Theme playing after Anakin's attack on the Tuskan village?) and even comedy, which leads me to my two favorite scenes:

1) The little padawans in training, wearing helmets and waving their light sabers around. Comedy gold.

2) Yoda in the light saber battle. I sat there with a big shit-eating grin on my face for the ENTIRE BATTLE. Classic.

And my biggest bitch about the film? OK, so Anakin and Padme end up at the moisture farm on Tattooine that we all remember from A New Hope. And there's C3-PO to greet them, along with Owen and his girlfriend Beru. Lovely. Now, the family's had C3-PO for quite a few years now. So why do Owen and Beru have no recollection of him when the purchase him from the Jawas in A New Hope? I mean, I can see C3-PO's memory getting erased at some point or another, but Owen and Beru - that makes no sense. Please, Mr. Lucas, a bit more continuity - quit fucking around with your first 3 and actually WATCH THEM already!

Now that we're done with my bastardized form of movie reviews, off I go for some breakfast and to get ready for a day trip to Athens.
