Pure Imitation Maranie
Friday, July 26, 2002I am SO SICK of this whole homebuying process. Cannot stress this enough. I just want to wave a magic wand and find myself about a month and a half into the future, when all this moving and closing shit is over and done with, and I think Jason would agree. ACK.posted by Maranie on 7/26/2002 12:39:00 PM I'm picturing an accompanying T-shirt reading "If you can understand this album, you're overeducated." posted by Maranie on 7/26/2002 12:31:00 PM I'm wondering if they're going to sample "Dee Dee, I'm confused!" posted by Maranie on 7/26/2002 12:29:00 PM Thursday, July 25, 2002ACK.Good news: Got the house. Yes, it WAS up in the air for a bit. Bad news: Woke up today by the sound of the phone ringing - at 9:15. Got to work almost 2 hours late. Good news: Got tix to Les Miserables in September! Haven't seen it in over 11 years! Yay! Bad news: The tickets cost $142.50. Ticketmaster can bite me. Good news: I lost another 1.5 lbs. in my Weight Watchers plan, which means I've lost a total of 14 lbs since I started this whole thing. Bad news: I'm so stressed right now that all I wanna do is eat. I cannot wait to move into this house and get this over with, because the stress is manifesting itself in every part of my life, and that SUCKS. posted by Maranie on 7/25/2002 01:39:00 PM Wednesday, July 24, 2002Well, today was certainly interesting. Not like it's never rained before at work. We all looked out the window and saw the clouds start to roll in. We hoped for the rain to end this drought that's turned all lawns into hay. It wasn't until the sky darkened and it began to look like night that we became concerned. I don't know the first indication to everyone about how bad it was storming outside. We heard some thunder, saw some lightning, and watching sheets of rain coming down. My first indication was seeing Brandon coming in from his lunch break, soaked from the waist down as if he'd hopped into the shallow end of a swimming pool. He'd been carrying an umbrella. He informed me that two lanes of Front Street down near the courthouse were closed due to flooding. Then the fire alarms went off and we were told to evacuate. We grabbed our purses and headed for the stairs until Debbie announced that it was a false alarm, due to power surges in the building. Amy told us to shut down our computers, but mine was on battery backup so I went back to my desk and kept working, despite the deafening buzzing of the alarms. At some point, one of the smokers in the office came back from her break - I think it was Cindy - and informed us that the lobby was flooding. Shortly thereafter, the elevator shafts flooded too and the elevators were down. I headed into Jody's corner office to see Front Street. While I couldn't view it from there, I did see that the alley next to our building was a river, flowing several inches deep and at a nice pace down the road. When I came back to my desk, I overheard that the balcony was flooding and leaking into the conference room, so I went to investigate. I've never seen anything like THAT. Water WAS seeping into the conference room. The chairs had been moved out of the way, and rolls of paper towels were brought in to mop up and keep the water from spreading farther. But the real amazement was the balcony. There were the firm partners there, other attorneys, and some of the support staff, all barefoot. Those in pants had them rolled up to their knees, and each one of them had a plastic trashcan. They were hauling water over the balcony, looking very much like mates on a ship about to go down. Donna was snapping photos and Trish was filming all this as it occurred. Once that was under control, the emphasis moved to Debbie's office. Although the building is six stories, and we're located on the second floor, the ceiling in her office was leaking in at least four spots. Her photos and wall hangings were taken down, while all furniture and computer equipment were covered in trashbags. I'm still not sure how long this rain of Biblical proportions lasted. I do know that once I left about three hours later, at five, the sun was shining but the elevators were still down. I heard that Gahanna got four inches of rain but downtown only got two; somehow, I doubt that Gahanna could've possibly been worse. What still amazes me, though, was calling Jason about a half hour after the balcony was being bailed and we were all talking of jumping ship. I asked, how's the weather in Dublin? A little bit cloudy, he said. Why? posted by Maranie on 7/24/2002 12:09:00 AM Tuesday, July 23, 2002AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!I want this whole home-buying thing over and done with. I don't want to fuck with the roof, or the garage door, or the idiot seller, or closing costs, or anything. I just want to move in. I'm stressed to the point of screaming or crying (or both), and Jason's pretty much at that point too. Renting forever is looking like a damn good choice at this point. posted by Maranie on 7/23/2002 12:48:00 PM Monday, July 22, 2002So we did the home inspection today.BAH. We need a new roof. We need a new garage door. We need to paint the master bedroom and adjoining bath (personal preference there) and recarpet the living room (also personal preference - burgundy = bleh.) Plus, we have three things to fit into our third spare room - computer desk, drum kit, and sofa - but we'll only have room for two of the above. We knew the decor things, but the repairs knocked us for a loop. I'm NOT a happy camper about having to grovel to Mom and Dad for a few extra bucks. I'm going to go drown my sorrows now with Monday night margaritas. Good thing they're 99 cents, I can't spare a dime right now. posted by Maranie on 7/22/2002 05:46:00 PM That's it. I'm never fucking eating in Japan. posted by Maranie on 7/22/2002 05:42:00 PM He he he he.....I'm having way too much fun on this site, which I thought Progressive had just made up for the commercial. posted by Maranie on 7/22/2002 05:41:00 PM |
