Pure Imitation Maranie

I am so exhausted.

We closed on the house on Wednesday. We are now, officially, homeowners. We take possession next week.

So now it's a mad rush to get stuff done. Thankfully, Jason's been working on flooring estimates, packing, and selling stuff. The 75-gallon fish tank is going this afternoon to a co-worker's husband, while the futon has already been sold and is now being disassembled so the buyer can fit it into her Buick.

I've been trying to work out a plan to get the items from my parents' place, as well as get them to come here to help out with our yard sale sometime in early September. (Mom is very good at pricing and handling yard sales, trust me on this one.) We're pricing piano movers for the one still in West Virginia that I played when I was a little girl.

Everyone is being such a good help, too. Jason's Aunt Emily is picking up most of the tab for the wood flooring we want for the living room. His Grandpa Warren footed us much cash to put down the down payment, as did my parents. My folks are giving us some of their old, hardly-ever-used furniture, as well as the car. Plus, they're going to pay for the piano moving. Jason's sister Anne is letting us use her paint supplies and the leftover paint from her Adventures in Decorating last year. Even our real estate agent is in on it, offering use of his truck for moving and giving us "We're Moving!" note cards with two $100 Home Depot gift cards stashed neatly inside. And just about everyone has offered to help us with painting or moving.

It's just so tiring, though, all this shit to work on, plus the fact that we'll still need to switch over utilities, change our address everywhere, have our mail forwarded, clean up the apartment once we move out, etc. Plus we're still working full-time. So once again, I'm exhausted, and am looking forward to a long nap on the sofa this Friday night.

A funny development at work:

People are starting to ask me for help with computer problems.

Minor ones, I will admit - stopping and starting printers, using a Mail Merge in Windows XP, etc. - but it's still kinda comical nonetheless.

Huh. Someone has too much time on their hands.

Some quick observations. Let's start with John Mayer.

I think "No Such Thing" is a great song. But even words of wisdom are no longer sage if you've heard them a thousand times over. Even quasi-profound lyrics lack bite when embraced by sorority chicks. It's been run into the ground, listened to by too many chickies who like him because he's cute, and has therefore possibly banished the man to one-hit wonderdom.

Another observation: When someone at the office asks "How are you?" you answer "fine." "OK." "Good, how about yourself?" If this obviously isn't the case, "tired" or "not so good, think I might be coming down with something" are acceptable responses. Brief explanations are also all right. Everyone SHOULD know this, but apparently they DON'T, as I found out whilst cornered at the copier today. :-P

Third observation: Speaking with someone stupid makes you stupid too. That's the only explanation I can come up with, as I had to call one Ohio county's Clerk of Courts office today and speak with the most mind-numbingly moronic person I've ever encountered in my 26.5 years here on earth. Dear lord, brain cells are STILL committing suicide in my noggin. What a flaming idiot.

Fourth observation: Leaving 5 minutes earlier for work will get you there.....at exactly the same time, because apparently the clusterfuck of stupidity that is Columbus roads begins at exactly 8 a.m. in the Dublin area and follows me all the way into Downtown.

Fifth observation: PMS + chocolate = GOOD. Now, where is the chocolate?

Sixth observation: Overthinking things will piss you off. Humans in the future will be programmed with OFF switches for this purpose. Or at least a dimmer.

Seventh observation: I've really run this into the ground, myself, which kinda ties it all into the beginning again. But not really. Oh well, 15 minutes of lunch break left to kill on the computer and dick around some more.

If anyone out there wants to know what's on my Christmas list a little early, here's the first thing you can keep in mind. :-D

I've had so much to post about this weekend. Zhaan's return to "Farscape", a visit to Shadowbox Cabaret with a bunch of friends, carpet and mattress shopping. But here's the real highlights:

1.) Our real estate agent haggled a bit more and somehow got us a patio table out of the seller, and
2.) Jason's selling his car because my dad's giving us the Grand Prix.

For those of you not familiar with this fine vehicle, a brief history:

My mom and dad bought this car off the showroom floor. It's either a 1977 or a 1979. After they purchased it, they kept it in the garage and only used it for vacations, trips to Pittsburgh, and the occasional jaunt to the mall (just to keep it running.) It's all original parts, save the things that need to be replaced time and again (filters and whatnot.) It's white with beige interior. It's immaculate. It shines. It's a TANK. It's been handled with kid gloves for over two decades now, to the point where trying to search for pictures online of an example of the vehicle is pointless. Nobody has one that has been as loved and coddled as this car.

And the kicker:

It only has 39,000 miles on it. That's not a rollover, either. 39,000 miles and one owner.

I was offered the car when I was 15 to learn how to drive, but was too dazzled by it and the hold it had over my parents. Like I could ever have an accident in that car! If I did, I knew I'd survive the collision but get killed at home. Plus it was HUGE, and here I was, a pipsqueak at 5'2" and 115 lbs (at the time, folks, so maybe I've grown into it by now!) I doubt I could've seen over the damn hood.

Every boyfriend or boy-friend who has ever visited my home and seen this thing has practically drooled on it. I'm serious. Chad, Troy, Thumper, Shawn, Jay, and of course Jason, each one spilling out questions to my mom and dad about the vehicle, the most important being "Can I drive it?" or "Can Maranie drive it?" They were all in awe.

Jason feels particularly lucky, after I told him this. He pointed out that he got the girl AND the car. :-)

I'll figure out a way to post a picture of this, the house, whatever. I have to learn now. I have too much to show off at this point. :-D
